CULTIVATING COMMUNITY with
and THROUGH THE NATURAL WORLD
The Louisiana Wild Society is an inclusive women-led not-for-profit organization that believes in the importance of protecting and regenerating our planet through community engagement.
We encourage landscape stewardship and environmental education in and around Southeast Louisiana and celebrate diversity of ecology (as well as humans).
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO
Along with teaching, we believe deeply in community, friendship, and the importance of fun, so our plant giveaways, garden installations & walking tours come to life in Louisiana fais do-do fashion, and are always family-friendly.
Plant diversity is the foundation of the food chain, so through the diversification of ecologies, we work together to ensure that sustainable ecologies flourish for all.
We’re on a mission to provide education, skills, and resources for all living beings to thrive.
We pursue habitat formation projects and seek to nourish rich ecosystems for future generations.
We believe that by working together, the greater Baton Rouge area is becoming a thriving city where people are connected to the earth, each other, and the plants that surround us.
Have you ever considered?
60% of this nation’s land is privately held.
…Of this 60%, 40 million acres is lawn
“If half of American lawns were replaced with native plants, we would create the equivalent to a 20 million acre national park, nine times bigger than Yellowstone”
-Doug Tallamy, Homegrown National Park
This means when individuals like you focus on your own little piece of earth, you can create substantial environmental change for the better!
It’s time to get to know our own backyards (porches, balconies, stoops)!
Begin by nurturing the plants you have, learning about our native ecosystems from the many great organizations doing this work, and together we can create native habitats that serve as safe havens for Southeast Louisiana’s local ecosystems and wildlife.
