We are committed to helping you be a part of the shared effort to nurture and sustain our living landscape.

A Start

The Louisiana Wild Society started simply. It was the dream of a few women wanting to create a better world for their children and those that would come after them. It was an outpouring of love and gratitude for nature that had mothered them from a young age. It was the innate need to get their hands dirty, to connect with something bigger than themselves, the felt joy of being in constant conversation with the world around them, and the willingness to take small steps to meet the needs of the beautiful people among them – all while dreaming of the possibilities of what could happen.

The Louisiana Wild Society is about more than just gardening. We partner with companies and organizations rooted in the goal of furthering the use of plants that create habitats for all living creatures throughout the greater Baton Rouge area so that our ecosystems, wildlife, and community at large thrive.

We aim to support the dynamic work already happening in our local communities and are proud to be partners with amazing companies like Sweet Fern Landscapes and local growers like Meadow Creek Natives that are already forging the way in nurturing our planet back to health.

Just think – if all the soil on the planet was revitalized (by way of using plants that benefit us here locally!), it could absorb more than five billion tons of carbon from the atmosphere each year. That’s the equivalent of all the carbon emitted by the United States annually!

It’s easy to dismiss our efforts as pointless in the face of all the damage being done to the planet we call home. But if you take a minute to slow down and look in the right places, you’ll see the good being done too – and it is truly inspiring to us!

We, collectively and as individuals, do have everything we need to make the world a wilder place. Don’t underestimate your unique ability to contribute and make a positive impact in whatever ways make sense for you. Choose one small thing, then another, and become part of a caring community of like-minded humans trying to do their best to look after the earth with the tenderness she deserves and rewild!

“This is really why I made my daughters learn to garden—so they would always have a mother to love them, long after I am gone.”

–Robin Wall Kimmerer
